Map has a special overflowing temple. Drop creatures into it to have them be doubled and teleported to the other side of the map. You can no longer control them.
Actually, I already played an Australian from Europe. Multiplayer that works well enough to do so is currently in the latest alpha.
I'm not going to stand there and say it feels instant, but I couldn't complain. Also, promises of further improvements in the near future.
