After reading several books by Edgar Rice Burroughs this year, but not Tarzan of the apes; I noticed that mister Burroughs used the same formula in every book. So without reading his books on Tarzan of the apes, mister Burroughs invented that guy, I could predict how the story would go.
Not said that this formula is so wonderful, I would read other books by other authors that where less predictable, but I thought it to be interesting to make a Dungeon Keeper map using this formula.
Off course, you can find many other features in this map like:
- A well designed computer opponent.
- Stable map, unless you go to build many workshops.
- Enough gold, if you are willing to fight for it.
- The Hero's labyrinth has about 5 boulders, so be careful.
From here
Keepers: Red, Blue, White Pool: Troll, Dragon, Demon Spawn, Fly, Dark Mistress Warlock, Bile Demon, Beetle, Spider, Hell Hound, Tentacle Orc
Objects on map:
Creatures: 26, Traps: 31, Doors: 34, Items: 281
Dungeon hearts: 3, Hero gates: 3, Special Boxes: 6
Now that the heroes aren't controlled by a Keeper, Oetelaer's maps are much better.
This one has you start with a single lvl 2 Dragon, who needs to rescue an Imp and a lvl 6 Mistress in a prison nearby. It is guarded by a lvl 5 Barbarian, but if needed you can go back and heal to deal with him with multiple assaults. Once you've got both creatures, you're good to go and start your dungeon.
You have access to all rooms in the game, and as such it makes things very easy. You don't get the heal spell, but chickens will do fine. You don't have gems, but the workshop will be enough. Rushing the Blue Keeper is an option, however killing him triggers strong hero invasions from the north.
Then you have to invade a hero castle and finish with a big fight with multiple parties spawning all over the map, including an Avatar in the first prison.
Also, Monks are much more tanky in this map.
3.5/5, let's say 4/5 then, 1/5 difficulty. The beginning is painful, Dragons are notoriously bad at breaking doors. The first wooden door is fine, but for the iron door I had to frameskip while possessing it.
